A Story of Hope

Building for the Future

Today I share with you the story of Megan. She is a young mother with an energetic 4-year-old son, James. Megan came to the Good Neighbors office when she was looking for some help with move in costs with her new apartment. This would be her first home with her son and she was really excited about having her own place. Even though she had been saving for a few months the security deposit to move in was more than she had available, and she was getting worried that she might lose the apartment. Her mother wanted to help her reach her goal and started making calls on her behalf while she was at work. One of her calls was to GNBC.

Megan made an appointment to come in on her day off and speak with a coach. She was enthusiastic about getting her own place and creating a home for her son. During the coaching we were able to advocate on her behalf for her to be able to move in as the landlord was familiar with GNBC. She was able to get a move in date for the end of the week and was super excited. Good Neighbors helped pay a portion of the security deposit and through the conversation with the coach discovered that Megan had more than just the goal of moving out on her own. She wanted to go back to school as well.

As it turned out Megan was also eligible for our Mentoring Program and she decided to enroll. She liked the idea of having a Mentor to help her reach her goals and build a stable and happy life for her son.

Today, after being enrolled for 3 months in our Mentoring Program, Megan is thriving. She has enrolled in Pellissippi State College and is loving it. As Megan continues on her journey to self-sufficiency, she is setting goals and reaching them at every turn!
